Volunteer and help us preserve and restore Newton’s urban forest

Newton Tree Conservancy’s ability to make Newton a prettier and healthier place to live is only limited by the number of volunteers to help in all aspects of our work. Assist directly with organizing tree planting neighborhood groups or tree pruning sessions. Other activities such as website content development, data management, publicity, and fundraising are also vital in our work.

Fill out the form or send us an email to get involved! Read more about how you can get involved below.

Tree Planting

We plant each spring and fall. Organize and solicit homeowners in your neighborhood or any location or street you believe needs more trees. Visit Plant a Tree to register as a group leader who will organize a tree planting. You need not have tree planting experience to be a group leader and tree planting organizer.

Tree Pruning

As trees grow and mature, they need to be trimmed and pruned. We are always in need of experienced pruners to help organize tree pruning sessions and volunteers willing to learn to help in this very important task. Learn about tree biology, tree maintenance, use of pruning tools (pruners, handsaws, pole saws, pole clips, loppers), proper pruning techniques, and strategy for structural pruning over time. Participants work on young trees to give them a strong healthy structure starting out, reducing future maintenance problems. All pruning is done from the ground, on younger trees and lower limbs of older trees.

More ways to get involved:

Periodically we receive requests from homeowners that they need a new watering bag or perhaps their tree is leaning too far one way and needs to be staked. Simple tasks but vital to tree health. If you are able to help with such requests, please let us know.

Likewise, if you have talents in the area of social media management, data management, fundraising, publicity, and brand management, please contact us. We are always in need of creative talent to help in our efforts to plant more trees!
